Be Unproductive, Find Happiness, Save Money

By Cornelius Nunev

Do you fall into the trap of assuming that your only reason in life is to be useful? Finding your personal bliss may involve accomplishment, but the full, balanced range of your existence may encompass times where being unproductive is just as appealing. Here are some recommendations for enjoying free or affordable fun, all the while showing a marked lack of productivity.

Being lazy tip No. 1: Make 'em laugh

Whether instigated by jokes, funny stories or even recommended doses of quirky behavior, the onset of laughter is restorative. Delivery is the most significant thing. If you observe the world around you and don't take yourself too seriously, proper delivery can make even relatively mundane statements into laughter popcorn. Make yourself and somebody else smile. It doesn't cost a thing.

There are new things all around you.

You can do activities like going rock climbing or playing the piano. They are fun to look at as well. Make sure you pay close attention to them. You do not always have to participate right away; in fact, you can just watch right now and decide to do them later instead.

Animals around you

You should listen to the creatures in the wild while observing the different things they do. If you go to the forest or to a swamp, you can hear all the noises all around you and they are not that hard to understand. Listen carefully, particularly in the evening and morning.

Free parks in summer

Think Chicago was not telling the truth when it sang about all the good things to do on a Saturday in the park? Think again. A free public park is a great summertime destination for sitting back and catching some rays. Bring a chair, or a towel. If you are going to be there at lunchtime, bring lunch with you and enjoy it there.

A neighborhood flower garden

Check to see if your town has a neighborhood flower garden or arboretum. Even a greenhouse will do. Seeing flowers, trees and other plants is a pleasant way to enjoy an afternoon, and many facilities of this nature do not charge an admission fee.

Being lazy tip No. 6: In the clouds

If you want to, you can do this while at the park, or you can do it on a separate outing. Go with friends and family, or you can do it alone, and look at the clouds. Classify them or simply identify the shapes you seeing if you do not know the different cloud types.

Good books to read

You can get a magazine or long pamphlet to read if you do not like books, but getting a great book and sitting down with it is good. It is much better than watching television and is great for your mind.

Being lazy tip No. 8: Look at old photos

Reconnect with your past through old photographs. Each has a story to tell, and the trip down memory lane doesn't cost a penny. Provided the memories are good memories, you're en route to personal bliss.

Sports available

You can watch any sort of game and enjoy yourself doing it. Instead of spending additional time playing the game, which could be considered productive, you can just watch it. Make sure you balance your life out rather than always working.

Take off your shoes

You can hold off on all your work by going on a little walk in the evening or by taking off your shoes and feeling the sand between your toes. There are rivers and oceans around or even walking trails you can go on.
