There Is A Long History To Be Discovered In White Privilege Sports

By Toni Vang

Everyone should try and do some or other form of sport as it not only keeps one healthy but also teaches how to interact with other people. It also helps many to accept how to be gracious when winning or losing. There are some people that still ask if there are any white privilege sports left but irrespective of color it is a sport where many still make friends no matter what the race might be.

Deciding to become active does help in the lowering of all heart diseases, helping to fight off some cancers as well as diabetes and osteoporosis. It is proven to lower cholesterol and blood pressure and it does make one feel more alive and ready to face whatever life may bring. Walking and cycling also helps keep the environment free of many pollutants.

The amount of physical activities that one does will depend on ones age and level of fitness. Starting off slow is better than not doing anything even if it means only walking up the road to the shops and back again. Everyone has to start off somewhere and as the days progress so will the level of energy increase.

Netball is also a very popular game and although mainly woman play it some men also enjoy it. It plays an important social and public part of life and in the apartheid era in South Africa it was mainly a white's game. It has now become a more predominantly black sport very much the same as Soccer. The President of the South African Netball team is Mimi Mthethwa and the Chief Executive Officer is Blanch de la Guerre.

When it comes to the National Football League it is said that there are more than sixty eight percent of the players that are African American. There are six positions that are thought to be more for the white players then the blacks. These are the quarterbacks, tight ends, long snapper as well as the center and the placekickers.

Skate parks have been constructed since the nineteen seventies not only for skating but also for scooters, freestyle BMXs and aggressive skaters as well. The first of these boards that were made were constructed out of old wooden boxes and boards and then had wheels attached to the bottom. It is thought that these were thought up when the surfers became bored when there were no waves and constructed these to keep themselves busy.

The first magazine for this sport was published in nineteen sixty four by the Quarterly Skateboarder. There were unfortunately only four issues ever printed but eleven years later they did manage to resume the publication. When this was finally recognized and considered a sport for competitions there were only two disciplines and they were the slalom and freestyle.

Being an East Asian seems to be even harder as they are stereotyped as being both athletically and physically poorer to any other race. This has lead to them not being recruited as well as badly under-represented in many sports. In athletics they only represent two percent while in the National Football League about one point nine percent, something that has really changed with the decades.
