Four Ways A New Home Could Cost You

By Cornelius Nunev

Moving can be an expensive task that must be budgeted for cautiously. When you are moving, there are several expenditures you might encounter with a new rental that you might not have thought of.

Heating costs

You need to always check with your new landlord about the heating and cooling costs of the brand new room. Some houses and apartments are heated using oil, natural gasoline, or hot-water heating that is not directly tied to the electricity system. Make sure the lease clearly spells out who is responsible for paying the expenses associated with heating and/or cooling the home. If you are not careful, you might find yourself stuck with a $600 bill to refill the heating oil tank in the middle of winter.

Do not overlook about parking

Parking is one cost that individuals do not expect to have to pay. Some homes being rented have a driveway to park and some apartment complexes will assign one spot per person. Unfortunately, this is not the case everywhere. You may not have parking without extra costs if you are in a city with few parking options. Check the area and find out what your parking costs might be.

Storage

A ton of times, you have to downsize when moving to a new place because you are sharing it or it is smaller. If this is the case, you could have to sell and give away a ton of the stuff. If you want to keep it, you can get storage at most places, but it is an additional cost. You could have to store stuff while in the moving process. Consider that you could need storage and budget for it in the future.

Garbage and recycling

Most apartment complexes look after garbage for you, so you do not have to stress about it, but there are several complexes and a ton of houses that require you pay for this yourself. Trash and recycling costs are very common in cities and states across the country. In case you are signing a contract, make sure you know what the costs are and what you are responsible for. Get a deal with one of your neighbors in case you are in an apartment to make sure you get your garbage covered for as affordable as possible.
